Dialogue: Numbers in conversation

أَحْمَد
عِنْدِي كِتَابٌ وَاحِدٌ وَقَلَمَانِ.
I have one book and two pens.
زَيْنَب
وَعِنْدِي ثَلَاثَةُ كُتُبٍ وَخَمْسَةُ أَقْلَامٍ.
And I have three books and five pens. (3–10: number + idafa, noun in genitive plural)
أَحْمَد
هَذَا الدَّرْسُ الْأَوَّلُ. وَذَلِكَ الدَّرْسُ الثَّانِي.
This is the first lesson. And that is the second lesson.
زَيْنَب
نَحْنُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ الرَّابِعَةِ. وَالسُّورَةُ الْأُولَى جَمِيلَةٌ.
We are in the fourth prayer. And the first surah is beautiful.
أَحْمَد
عِنْدِي ثَلَاثَةُ كُتُبٍ وَأَرْبَعَةُ أَقْلَامٍ.
I have three books and four pens.
زَيْنَب
هَذَا الْيَوْمُ الثَّالِثُ. وَذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْعَاشِرُ.
This is the third day. And that is the tenth day.
أَحْمَد
فِي الْفَصْلِ خَمْسَةُ طُلَّابٍ وَسِتُّ طَالِبَاتٍ.
In the classroom are five (m.) students and six (f.) students.
زَيْنَب
سَبْعَةُ كُتُبٍ وَثَمَانِيَةُ أَقْلَامٍ عَلَى الْمَكْتَبِ.
Seven books and eight pens are on the desk.
أَحْمَد
هَذَا الدَّرْسُ الثَّامِنُ. وَتِسْعَةُ أَوْلَادٍ فِي الْمَدْرَسَةِ.
This is the eighth lesson. And nine boys are in the school.
زَيْنَب
عَشَرَةُ كُتُبٍ عَلَى الْمَكْتَبِ. وَالْعَدَدُ وَاحِدٌ وَاثْنَانِ صِفَةٌ، وَثَلَاثَةٌ إِلَى عَشَرَةٍ مُضَافٌ.
Ten books on the desk. Numbers 1–2 are adjective; 3–10 are mudhaf (noun plural majrūr).
Grammar Note

1 & 2: adjective (وَاحِدٌ، اثْنَانِ/اثْنَتَانِ). 3–10: inverse idafa, noun plural majrūr. Ordinals: أَوَّلٌ، ثَانٍ، ثَالِثٌ… after the noun.
